The Deputy Minister of the National Academy of Sciences presented the results of the previous academic year and the main tasks for the new academic year, highlighting the process of implementing the state standard of general education. According to him, the standard was already almost fully implemented last year, and this year it will be implemented in the 12th grade. With the new rules, the hours of the state component have been increased in secondary schools, and the hours of the school component have been increased in elementary and especially secondary schools.

In the case of project-based learning, the focus will be on the content

The requirements for project-based learning have also been changed. In elementary school, each student must complete at least one project work per year, and in high school, at least one work in the subjects studied under the target program.

“We should not forget that project-based learning is not event planning,” Araksia Svadjian emphasized, noting that the knowledge and skills acquired by students as a result of the project are a priority.

New disciplines: “healthy lifestyle” and “safe living”

With the changes made to the state standard of general education, “healthy lifestyle” becomes a separate subject in grades 5 and 10. In the same classes, “safe living” will also be taught, which will mainly have a practical focus, as well as teach skills for proper functioning and survival in emergency situations. In the 11th grade, it is planned to organize it in the format of a summer camp.

The second semester of the 12th grade will become more flexible

One of the key problems in high school is the attendance of 12th graders, especially after taking the entrance exams in January. In the second semester, it is planned to organize more project work, clubs and volunteer work for them, for which loans can be obtained.

The Deputy Minister also stressed that the school should be able to prepare students for entrance exams, gradually reducing the need for tutors.
