Russian cosmonaut Sergei Ryazansky admires the beauty of Armenia, which he has photographed many times from space.
Yerevan, November 13 – Sputnik, Laura Sargsyan. Armenians have great potential in the field of space exploration, but this requires huge resources that Armenia does not have. This was stated by Russian cosmonaut Sergei Ryazansky in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
He is an astronaut who photographed Yerevan, Mount Ararat, Lake Sevan during space flights in 2017 and 2018 and posted photos on the Internet.
The idea to photograph Armenia was born in flight. He visited Armenia for the first time in 2014 and gave lectures in our country. In Armenia, and especially in Yerevan, there is an atmosphere that, according to him, you will not find anywhere else in the world.
“I liked photographing Sevan, Yerevan and Ararat from space. Familiar places are easier to find than places you’ve never seen. The station is flying so fast that in 10 seconds it is difficult to orient yourself and take a good picture,” says Ryazansky.
All the photos of the astronaut made a lot of noise on social networks. He posted the last of the scandalous pictures on his Facebook page on February 14. The photos show Lake Van in the shape of a heart.
Ryazansky says that such beautiful and intelligent people as Armenians have great potential in space exploration, but Armenia today does not have the means to develop this field on its own.
This issue can be resolved if Armenia participates in international programs. He is confident that if Armenia can develop its own space program, it will be a good motivation for the development of space horizons of children and schoolchildren.
This requires space corporations, within which an international group could carry out joint projects. And there are no such corporations yet.
Ryazansky also told how he became an astronaut.
“I didn’t dream of becoming an astronaut, I wanted to become a scientist, a biologist, and I still really love nature. In the late 90s and early 2000s, I worked as a ground tester of space technology. And when the Russian Academy of Sciences decided to gather scientists and give them the opportunity, I took advantage of it,” he said.
The test cosmonaut of the Roscosmos detachment, Hero of Russia, cosmonaut Sergey Ryazansky celebrates his birthday today.
