If in 2023 there were 52 percent of our total tourists from Russia during the same period, from January to April, now there are 36. If in 2024 there were 42 of them, now there are 36. Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan stated this at a government meeting.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the number of tourists from Russia has also increased. “The specific gravity is decreasing, but the absolute number is increasing. We are very happy to welcome tourists from all countries,” the Prime Minister said.
“Last year we also had 36 percent in the case of Russia, but if last year it was 183,700, this year it is already 245,178. That is, we have maintained the same 36%, but the total flows have increased,” the minister said.
The Prime Minister noted that the Russians who subscribed to him, in particular, on Instagram and TikTok, promised many in their comments that they would visit Armenia this year.:
“In fact, they are fulfilling their promise, for which, of course, I am grateful,” Pashinyan said.
Papoyan noted that the number of tourists coming not only from Russia in the future, but also from India, Italy, France, the USA, China, Germany, Ukraine, Iran, and Georgia has increased, meaning the geography has expanded.
“I am pleased to note that there is an increase in the number of tourists from Georgia. This is very encouraging, and I hope that by the end of 2023 we will surpass the figures of 2023 in terms of the number of tourists from Russia. These figures mean that we are currently experiencing a tourism boom, and secondly, this boom will continue and grow, because there are all the prerequisites for this. This is very good news, and I hope that representatives of the tourism sector, respected entrepreneurs, including from the regions, will be very attentive to these statistics,” the Prime Minister said.:
He noted that, after all, these are all cash flows, and entrepreneurs themselves must make efforts to get their fair share of these flows.
“In the case of Georgia, for comparison, I will say. In 2019, it was about 69,000, last year it was about 76,000, “this year it is already more than 93,000,” Gevorg Papoyan noted:
ONCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan noted that tourists’ visits to our cultural monuments are obvious. “These days, at the beginning of May, at the end of April, in fact, apart from organized tours that travel companies buy in separate packages of tickets, for example, we had 2-3 thousand visits to Garni for individual tickets, and since the electronic ticket system is now in operation, we can monitor them on a daily basis, and I can state that the level of these visits has indeed increased significantly., and this is clearly reflected in visits to our cultural sites,” the minister said.:
