Nikol Pashinyan, during a speech at the National Assembly dedicated to the draft budget, stated that one of the reasons for the increase in Armenia’s external debt is the purchase of weapons.:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are told that the external debt has reached 8 billion, they ask what we have done with this money. I didn’t want to say this, but I will say this: we took the weapon. We took the weapons. We borrowed weapons. Yes, we borrowed weapons. Why? Because it needed a lot at once”,- said Pashinyan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political scientist Stepan Danielyan Diary.In an interview with News, he expressed the opinion that foreign debt is mainly taken under the guise of social programs. There must be guarantees that this debt will be repaid. And the fewer guarantees there are, the higher the percentage of debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Another question is how much of this money was spent on weapons, because we have an example of Ukraine. A very big scandal began there: corruption cases were initiated, “and it was in relation to arms purchases that great abuses were committed,” the political scientist noted, not ruling out that similar corruption cases in Armenia could be solved in the future, but not under the current authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Touching upon the quality of the purchased weapons, Stepan Danielyan recalled: “In 2020, we saw that the purchased weapons and the money spent on them were ineffective. They acquired planes without missiles, which played no role during the war. The necessary weapons were not purchased: now the question arises, what did they buy and whether we have personnel capable of using these weapons.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the political scientist, one of the main components of foreign debt is the preservation of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“And now they are promising pre-election bribes, reducing the length of service in the army, promising to raise pensions, and so on. That is, at the expense of the budget, in fact, the distribution of bribes is of paramount importance. The main motive of external debt is to retain power, although in the future every resident receives a huge debt that must be repaid. It is unclear how they will be returned when the economy is not developing. This means that this burden will also remain on the shoulders of future generations,” Danielyan said, stressing that we are dealing with a populist who does not have any red lines and who is a master of lies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
